Colten Hayes Named NCHL Defenceman of the Year
The Innisfail Eagles are proud to celebrate an outstanding individual achievement that reflects both elite performance and relentless dedication.
Colten Hayes (pictured above in photo by Mountain View Publishing) has officially been named the North Central Hockey League (NCHL) Defenceman of the Year for the 2025–2026 season.
The award, voted on by teams across the league, recognizes the top defenceman based on overall impact, performance, and contribution throughout the season. On February 11, NCHL Vice President Darcie Brady was in attendance to personally present Colten with the honour.
The numbers tell a great story...
Colten recorded 35 points in just 13 games (11 goals, 24 assists), leading all NCHL defencemen in scoring and finishing tied for fourth in overall league scoring.
But beyond the stats, this award reflects:
- Consistent two-way play
- Leadership from the back end
- Poise under pressure
- The ability to drive momentum in critical moments
Defencemen anchor championship teams. They set the tone, manage transitions, and elevate play in all three zones. Colten did all of that and more throughout the 2025–2026 campaign.
This recognition is not only a milestone for Colten, but also a proud moment for the entire Eagles organization.
Congratulations, Colten! Well earned. Well deserved.
